Warning from International Food Safety Agencies

According to information from the Austrian Food Safety and Health Agency, Company HiPP (a German-Swiss baby food manufacturer) and the SPAR supermarket chain have recalled all HiPP Vegetable Carrot with Potato products (190-gram jars). This recall was implemented across 1,500 stores throughout Austria following concerns that the product may contain traces of rodenticide. This is a severe warning directly impacting the health of a highly sensitive group: infants and young children.

Directives for Review and Recall by the Vietnam Food Administration

To ensure absolute safety for consumers in Vietnam, the Vietnam Food Administration requests the Departments of Health, Food Safety Departments, and Food Safety and Hygiene Divisions of provinces and centrally-run cities to urgently deploy professional measures. Functional agencies must conduct a comprehensive review of all registered and self-announced product dossiers for HiPP jarred baby food products within their jurisdiction.

In cases where a company has registered these products, they must be required to immediately notify distributors and consumers to cease usage. Furthermore, the enterprise must conduct a recall in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, provide detailed reports on imported quantities, sales figures, and remaining inventory, and propose specific handling measures for the affected product batches.

Strict Control on E-commerce Platforms

On the same day, the Vietnam Food Administration issued Official Dispatch No. 635/ATTP-SP to the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade). The document requests e-commerce platforms and online sales websites to coordinate with stall owners to cease the trade of the aforementioned product batches. All advertisements and introductory information regarding these substandard products must be completely removed from digital platforms to prevent consumer access and use.

Recommendations for Consumers and Medical Facilities

Local functional agencies should strengthen communication and dissemination of information to ensure citizens recognize and avoid using the specific HiPP baby food batches listed in the warning. If these products are found in circulation, citizens and businesses must immediately report them to the authorities for timely action in accordance with the law. Localities are required to report the results of these handling measures to the Vietnam Food Administration by April 27, 2026.
